Long Black at a Coffee Club

Anyone who lives in Australia, especially Brisbane, has probably seen a Coffee Club. For those that haven’t, it is a chain cafe that was started here in Brisbane that has not built its business on adding sugary crap to coffee.

The other weekend one of my aunts was up from Sydney, so we all went out to the same place my Dad goes to every time we do this. I found myself at the Racecourse Road Coffee Club, Ascot. I eventually made my way through two long blacks and their big breakfast.

Personally I have found that their coffee is not the best, but it is generally consistent across their stores, and the food is fairly decent. I ended up having their huge breakfast. I was a little disappointed when I was not allowed to swap the eggs, which I don’t eat, for something that I did. Usually, I can do this.

I have recently started a new job working for Greyhound Australia as their Online Marketing Coordinator. Understandably, as a part of my first week, I needed to spend sometime with the IT department, to get a better idea of how things work and what systems they have in place. The IT department is in Toowoomba.

With a ticket for a Greyhound bus I was off that morning to the Roma street Transit Centre. There are not a lot of cafes in the Transit centre, but there was one called the Dancing Bean. The coffee was not too bad, and they had an extensive range of cakes. I did not see the coffee beans that they used, but the coffee was not bad. It kept me going for most of the day until I was taken to this small cafe in Toowoomba called Coffee, Tea and Me.

I have recently finished up on a contract with the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. I was employed  as a content producer, and trust me, it is not as fun as it sounds. However, some of the people in the office were great and the money was not too bad either. The coffee shop just around the corner was pretty good too.

The place is called Cafine, and their long blacks are pretty good. They can make a strong and drinkable long black, without it needing sugar.

They did not make that cookie though, that was from one of the vending machines in the office.

Long black at Gallery Cafe

It should not be as hard as it is to find a place that makes a chicken sandwich with a decent amount of chicken on it. Unfortunatly it is. Gallery Cafe does make a decent chicken sandwich. Their coffee is not much to talk about, and they are typical of most other cafes based in Westfield Chermside shopping centre.

The cafe is located opposite Borders, just outside of David jones, and has some of the oddest and least comfortable clear plastic chairs.

Ekka with a long black

The Ekka has been and gone, and I was there on Peoples day, the busiest day of all. There was a lot of fun to be had that day. Elbowing through the showbag pavilion packed with too many people. Watching stubborn sheep not doing much at all at the sheep dog trials and a number of other farm animals, alive and as meat.

In all of this chaos I did manage to find a cup of coffee and a mushroom and steak sandwich in the Woolworths fresh food pavilion. It was locally produced and served in a branded cup. It was not too bad, but I did not find myself buying a bag of beans afterwards.

I did end up with some DBZ figures, both a Bulls and a Darrell Lee showbag, a clock, an audio pig, a firewoman calendar and a selection of cheeses.
